I found this film extremely relevant in 2006 as many of my classmates and friends were headed off to Iraq. I find it even more relevant now. If you haven’t seen Alfonso Cuarón’s Children of Men or Y Tu Mamá Tombién, do yourself a favor and check them out. While your at it, go read Naomi Klein’s Shock Doctrine.

That was one seriously depressing movie.

Children of Men is so good. Clive Owen really is a class act all the way around. Pretty much anything he’s in even for a split second gets a little recommendation.

A haunting, brilliant film. Only ever watched it twice, but still is resonant to me.

By Huey...if there was ever a movie that defines my generation AND proves Clive Owen can act it was this one. And the fact it was based on a story written by a little old lady more famous for old school Agatha Christie style crime stories... sublime.

I really loved that movie...that’s my kind of apocalytpic horror because there’s so much less suspension of disbelief than with, say, zombies.

The one part that took it a little over the top on social commentary was the scene where they were moving quickly through the camp and there was another detainee in the famous “Guantanamo pose.” Not a spoiler, more of an easter egg. It would probably be easily missed by viewers today since we’ve moved onto other concerns...
